Setting Up EG105GW(T) in a Project

Update: We can disable SON on the EG105GW so it will not try to manage other devices and it can still be setup as an AP at the same time to have the same subnet with the WAN network on it's LAN interface.

-Recent issues have the EG105 set itself as a Master device even if it's in the far end of a network and this cause other devices not to work as it doesn't provide the internet connection and devices look for the Master device to get it's internet connection.

-There can only be a single gateway device in a project if possible or whichever comes online will set itself as the Master even if it is in the far end of a network. We can solve this by changing the mode of the other device as access point.

-Depending on the design of your network, like if you have 3 x EW3200GX Pro, one will be a master and the other 2 will mesh with the Main AP. This scenario, you can have all the same gateway device in the project but if you need to do a power cyle/restart, start first the Main AP and not any of the 2 Mesh AP so the Main AP will still be the Master.

-It would be best to have a power-on sequence starting from the device closest to the ISP router going to the far end devices.

-A Master device should be providing internet connection and this is usually near or wired to you ISP.

-Gateway devices includes all routers and All-in-one device e.g. EG105GW(T),  EG105GW(X), RG-EW3200GX Pro

-Ruijie advised to create a new project with only the EG105 in it even if it belongs to the same network of another project. This is to prevent the EG105 to take over as the Master.

How to Disable SON (Self Organizing Network) for EG105

-We would need to eWeb to the device to access it directly through a web browser. We just need to tick the box next to the device, click eWeb on the top and click connect when the pop-up appears.

-A new window will open similar below, choose Local Device(EG105GW(T))

Please click the edit option beside the Working Mode and disable Self-Organizing Network.

How to change the work mode of EG105 to Access Point

-Before we start, please save the serial number of the device as we will need to add it back later. After we set the device to Access Point, the device automatically removes itself from the project and we will need to add it back by typing the serial number to add an access point. This is best to be done on a Laptop/PC web browser.

-We would need to eWeb to the device to access it directly through a web browser. We just need to tick the box next to the device, click eWeb on the top and click connect when the pop-up appears.

Before you put the device into access mode, copy the SN or Serial Number of the device.

Go to the local device > Network > Repeater/WISP, select Access Point then click "Check"

The window will update and click Save

At this point, the device will delete itself from the project and we will need to add it back as an access point. Below is the guide on how to manually add an access point using the serial number.

How to manually add an access point using the serial number

Go to Devices > AP > Add AP

Choose Cloud Management then Next

Type the Serial Number and optional Alias then click Finish

The device will be back on the devices list with the settings we have configured earlier.
